Overview
Summary
The City is seeking a qualified firm to install, own, operate and maintain electric vehicle charging stations for public use by passenger EVs at various City-owned facilities and potential curbside locations in Santa Monica. Three priority parking facilities have old EV chargers that need to be replaced and upgraded with networked chargers. One site will include the addition of at least 30 new chargers using existing conduit and power capacity.
Background
The City is seeking turn-key EV charging services with an EV charging service provider (or “Vendor”) to install, own, operate and maintain EV charging stations at City parking facilities and potentially in the public right-of-way. The selected vendor will be responsible for replacing a minimum of 48 old charge ports at three parking structures, replacing additional chargers that break in the future at various City locations, and installing chargers at new sites identified by the City in collaboration with the vendor. All parking facilities see high charger utilization from surrounding businesses.
The City has more than 160 public City-owned chargers and no longer wishes to own, operate and maintain new public charging equipment due to limited capacity and resources. The selected vendor would install chargers at mutually agreed upon City locations at no-cost to the City, cover electricity costs, and retain charging revenue and ownership of the low carbon fuel standard (LCFS) credits earned.
