The fiber ring network design does not include any aerial fiber. The design is an all-underground design.

If the fiber ring network design included aerial fiber, then Southern California Edison (SCE) would be the pole owner.

Does the city have a Bill of Materials for the proposed city ring fiber network indicating available conduit, duct size, and fiber count which it can share? We'd like to understand if there is duct that we can use if necessary, and availability of fiber strand in the city's proposed DF ring. - Nov 27 2023 at 2:03 PMCity of Palm Desert
The fiber that the City currently owns is dedicated to the traffic signal management system only, so the City is not utilizing any existing conduit or fiber in the proposed fiber ring network. The City is looking at installing 288 strands of fiber throughout the proposed fiber ring network.

The City of Palm Desert is reviewing the California Last Mile Federal Funding Account (FFA). This last-mile grant would increase the probability of the City facilitating infrastructure deployment to meet the connectivity needs of un and underserved residents and businesses. In addition, while the application is currently closed, the City is considering future CASF Infrastructure Account applications through the local Broadband Consortium representative to plan for future grant award rounds.
