Overview
Summary
The Central Library of the James Madison Regional Library system is located at 201 East Market Street in Charlottesville Virginia. This building was opened in 1921 and serves the downtown area.
The fire pump at Central Library is over 44 years old, and although it has passed mandatory annual testing, it is no longer safe to rely on for fire protection.
The existing Fire Pump at James Madison Regional Library requires replacement, due to age and structural wear. This project will replace the existing fire pump, motor, jockey pump, valves, pipes, switches and controllers. Contractor shall demolish and replace existing fire pump with those components including alarm and electrical connections, control panels and connections to existing sprinkler system.
The Contractor shall be responsible for all materials and labor to remove the existing fire pump and install the replacement. The new fire pump will be UL Enterprise-listed (UL) and Fire Marshall approved and sized equal to existing fire pump capacity. All equipment shall be installed in accordance with the applicable standards of the National Fire Protection Association and the manufacturer’s specifications.
Background
The Central Library is not completely sprinkled. In addition, the existing pump/mechanical room is located below grade and is accessed from the west side of the building. (off 2nd Street NE)
This project will require a contractor that is flexible and adaptive to the Central Library business hours and has the ability to complete this project in a manner that will minimize disruption to the Central Library's operations.
